Your all Beauty, Sexuality, and Romance

Sexuality

Sexuality is often defined simply in terms of sex, but sexuality encompasses many different aspects of our lives beyond just sex alone. Sexuality is determined in part by our genetics and in part by the social expression of our underlining heredity and interaction with others. Three common ways in which sexuality has been described are in terms of: sexual behavior, sexual orientation, and sexual identity. However sexuality like many other aspects of our lives can be best understood holistically whereby both the internal (i.e. sexual identity, sexual orientation, etc.) and external (i.e. gender socialization, voluntary celibacy, etc.) factors that influence sexuality can be addressed.

The majority of educational resources available on sexuality focus on internal factors such as sexual behavior, sexual identity, and sexual orientation. These factors are important to sexuality given that they are responsible for influencing how we think, feel, and act out our unconscious expressions of sexuality. Although the internal factors related to sexuality are in part genetically determined (also referred to as biological determinism) , human beings are rational beings and therefore have the ability to exercise choice in determining whether or not these internal factors get expressed publicly. Moreover, internal factors are not necessarily static and thus can change over time as we age and experience new places, situations, and people.

However what often gets neglected in discussions on sexuality is a dialogue on the diversity of external influences on sexuality. The most well known external influence on sexuality is gender socialization, which occurs in almost all aspects of our community including our family, school, media, and even politics. Some external influences that are less often associated to the development and expression of sexuality are sexual abuse, sexual exploitation, the presence of conflict or war, and spirituality, which could be thought of as both internally and externally influencing.

Of course the two greatest influencing factors on sexuality throughout history have been culture and religion. Culture is one of the central ways human beings define and express themselves including in terms of how we develop sexually. Cross-culturally sexuality means different things, and the expression of sexuality has different restrictions (or none at all) depending on where you go and who you talk to. Generally speaking, culture carries the most weight in sanctioning the expression, suppression, misuse, and even loving gesture of sexuality.

Despite what some people might think religion’s influence over sexuality is not about restrictions instead religion acts as a means by which sexuality can be channeled for the purposes of expression and even celebration. Although different religious doctrines propose a diversity of mandates when it comes to the ways in which sexuality should be channeled, most religions produce specifications on the basis of martial status, sex, and one’s personal spiritual growth.

Treatment for breast cancer

Surgeon:
This is the most common treatment for breast cancer. A surgeon performs an operation to remove the cancer from your breast and usually some of the lymph nodes under your arm. A number of different operations are used:

Lumpectomy: In this operation (also called a partial mastectomy, or a segmental mastectomy), just the lump is removed from the breast. The surgeon removes a little normal breast tissue all the way around the cancer to be sure that all of the cancer is removed. Lymph nodes are removed from under the arm. This type of operation usually is followed by radiation therapy and sometimes by chemotherapy or hormone therapy.

Advantages of a lumpectomy: Your breast will not be removed.

Disadvantages of a lumpectomy: You will need additional treatment with x-ray therapy. You may have arm swelling.

Modified Radical Mastectomy: In this operation, the entire breast is removed, along with some skin and some underarm lymph nodes.

Advantages of a modified radical mastectomy: You probably will not need radiation therapy.

Disadvantages of a modified radical mastectomy: Your entire breast and some of your skin will be removed. You may have arm swelling.

Total Mastectomy: In this operation, the entire breast is removed, but usually not the lymph nodes.

Advantages of a total mastectomy: You probably will not need radiation therapy.

Disadvantages of a total mastectomy: The surgeon removes a little normal breast tissue all the way around the cancer to be sure that all of the cancer is removed. Your entire breast and some of your surrounding skin will be removed.

Breast Reconstruction: This is additional surgery done to rebuild (reconstruct) your breast. It may be done either at the same time as your breast is removed or at a later time. You may want to visit a plastic surgeon before making your final decision.

Support for Breast Cancer Patients

Earning to live with the changes that are brought about by having breast cancer is easier for you and for those who love you when you have helpful information and support services. Often, a social worker at your hospital or clinic can suggest local and national groups that will help you with rehabilitation, emotional support, financial aid, transportation, or home care.

The American Cancer Society (ACS), for example, has many services for cancer patients and their families. Their "Reach to Recovery" program offers special help for mastectomy patients. Trained volunteers, who have had breast cancer themselves, will visit you at your doctor's request and lend emotional support to you before and after your treatment. They will talk with you and share their own experiences with breast cancer treatment, rehabilitation, and breast reconstruction or fitting of breast forms. Your social worker or nurse can make a formal referral for you to the "Reach to Recovery" program at the time of your surgery.

Another resource for women who have had breast cancer surgery is "ENCORE". Sponsored by the YWCA, this program includes exercise to music, water exercises, and a discussion period. You may join this group after surgery, with your doctor's approval.

Information about other programs and services for breast cancer patients and their families is available through both the Meyer L. Prentis Comprehensive Cancer Center (toll-free: 800-4-CANCER) and the American Cancer Society Cancer Response Service (toll-free: 800-227-2345) . Your local American Cancer Society office will have information about local programs and services. Another resource that you may use to find out about breast cancer programs in your community is your local hospital Social Work Department.

Stem Cells, Fight Againts Cancer

What are Stem Cells?
Stem cells are primitive cells in the body that can multiply and mature into various cell types or organs.
Stem Cells can be divided into embryonic stem cells and the “adult” (somatic) cells. Embryonic stem cells are found in the early stages of a developing embryo and although they are probably the most potent of stem cells, their use can be controversial.

“Adult” (somatic) stem cells are stem cells found in the various organs once the body had been formed after the embryo stage. Practically every organ has its own stem cells, for example blood stem cells, fat stem cells, heart muscle stem cells, nerve stem cells, skin stem cells etc. These respective stem cells will grow and mature into their respective cells or organs. In some organs, these stem cells become inactive once the organ is fully developed while others, like blood stem cells are continuously active.

Differentiation of a Stem Cell
Blood stem cells can be found in cord blood, bone marrow and in peripheral circulation (peripheral blood). These blood stem cells will grow and develop into red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. These cells perform important functions such as carrying oxygen (red), fighting infections (white) and preventing bleeding (platelets).

Why are Stem Cells so important in the field of Medicine?
In the 1960s, blood stem cells were first used in the fight against cancer. Blood stem cells from the Bone Marrow were used in Bone Marrow Transplants (BMT) for patients with leukemia.

In the initial years, this treatment modality was not very successful but in subsequent years and decades, BMT (now collectively known as Stem Cell Transplant or SCT) became a life-saving treatment option in the fight against leukemia and various other types of cancers/blood disorders. Due to the need for stem cells, research and development led to the discovery of stem cells in cord blood and hence, Cord Blood Transplants.

Dermatitis Herpetiformis

The cause of a skin growth, rash or blemish isn’t always known by doctors or dermatologist. While some skin conditions are present at birth there are others that can develop as a person gets older and becomes exposed to more things.

Also known as Duhring’s disease, dermatitis herpetiformis is an uncommon disease that is characterized by a rash that is red and extremely itchy with small clusters of bumps and watery blisters. A burning or stinging sensation may also be felt around the area for some individuals. At times the itching can be unbearable and the urge to scratch can be overwhelming. However, scratching can lead to secondary infections so individuals should be careful. Eventually they will heal and form a scab that will eventually fall off. Even with treatments there is a strong possibility that new bumps and blisters will appear. The condition is often associated with individuals who have sensitivity to glutens. Glutens are a type of protein found in wheat, rye and barley products. It is not a contagious disease and can be referred to as Celiac Disease.

Who Can Get Them?
Individuals of Northern European descent seem to be affected. Both men and women can get it although it seem to be more common in men. After the age of twenty it will usually start although the ailment can affect children.

What Can Cause Them?
It is unknown exactly what causes dermatitis herpetiformis. Individuals who have a sensitivity to gluten type products are frequently associated with the condition. It helps to narrow down the types of treatments available once this is determined.

How Does It Happen?
It can be caused by a reactions to a protein found in cereals and other products known as gluten. When gluten from your food is combined with immunoglobulin A and they circulate in your blood stream a rash occurs. Eventually the small blood vessels of your skin are clogged up and a chemical called complements is released which creates the rash. Small bumps and blisters then appear. For the person with this skin disorder the rash can be very itchy and uncomfortable.

Where Do They Appear?
Typically it appears at the pressure points of the body such as the elbows, knees, scalp, back and buttocks. They can appear on both the front and back of an affected area. Other locations can be affected but the severity in each location can be different. After it clears up it can leave a brown spot.

What Are The Symptoms?
The symptoms of dermatitis herpetiformis include a particularly itchy red, rash that consist of bumps and blisters. The symptoms seem to get worse many times before they start to get better.

How Can It Be Diagnosed?
A skin biopsy and a immunfluorescence test is done by a doctor or dermatologist to diagnose dermatitis herpetiformis. A piece of the inflicted area is removed and examined under a microscope with a biopsy. Doctors use the technique immunofluorescence in order to label different antibodies with fluorescent dyes. A doctor may also refer individuals to a gastroenterologist to see if the intestines have a gluten problem. To confirm the diagnosis a blood test will be done.

What Treatments Are Available?
Without treatment the blisters and rash will go away. To help with the itching of the rash some ointments and creams are given. A drug called dapsone can be prescribed by a doctor which is an antibiotic that helps relieve the symptoms of this ailment with a day or two. There are some side effects to this drug so your doctor will watch for these. Treatment may need to continue throughout an individual’s life. Individuals may also have to be put on a gluten-free diet to control the disorder if gluten is found to be the cause.

Individuals should check themselves for skin growths, rashes and blemishes. Children should be checked by adults periodically as well. It is recommend that a doctor see you as soon as possible if anything appears since in cases like dermatitis herpetiformis there can be an underlying cause. Since it can lead to other illnesses if not treated properly this condition should be watched carefully. Taken from here.

Stem Cell, Potential Benefits to Our Health

Stem cells, and their potential benefits to our health, have captured our imagination. CNN <http://www.cnn. com/> even listed the recent advances in stem cell research as one of the most significant health-related stories in the past 25 years — second only to the complete mapping of the human genome.

But, beyond the media hype and the potential applications dreamed of by researchers and investors, just what are we really talking about here?

What stem cells are and their amazing potential in promoting optimal health

Stem cells can be thought of as a kind of "master" cell: undifferentiated (or "generic") cells. They have the ability to duplicate endlessly, and to differentiate into virtually any of the 210 different kinds of tissue cells in the human body, from the most general to the very specific — or specialized.

Think of it this way: When an egg is fertilized, the zygote (or fertilized egg) divides several times, creating an embryo. At thisstage of development, each of these cells has the potential to become a complete adult organism. (Fortunately, for mothers everywhere, they usually don't.) These cells are embryonic stem cells, the early building blocks of each human being.

As the embryo continues to grow, and passes through the various stages of development, these stem cells become increasingly differentiated and form the different specialized tissues of the body.

What is exciting here is that any of these embryonic stem cells has the potential to become virtually any kind of tissue in the body. The idea here is that these cells might be used to promote healing of damaged tissues.

But, as promising as embryonic stem cells may sound, what might prove to be even more beneficial, in the long run, are adult stem cells.

Adult stem cells offer a better option

Until very recently, it was believed that adult stem cells lacked the capability of embryonic stem cells to differentiate into the many different tissues of the body. That is why so much focus has been placed on embryonic stem cells, despite the ethical concerns that have been so much at the center of our public debate.

However, over the past 5 years, as the focus of stem cell research has moved away from embryonic stem cells to adult stem cells, it has been found that these adult stem cells have capabilities very similar to embryonic stem cells.

But, that is not all.

There is a rich source of adult stem cells in your own body. They are found most abundantly in your bone marrow, which contains somewhere between 100-200 million of them. This is really important news. It's important because, with such an abundant supply of adult stem cells
available, you don't need to look for a source somewhere else. Just as importantly, it means that no one has to turn a blind eye to the ethical issues involved, or do any moral gymnastics to rationalize a way around them, in favor of "the greater good".

Supporting wellness, not just curing disease or injury

What is more, we are learning that the benefits of stem cells extend far beyond their application in curing diseases or repairing injuries. As remarkable as these achievements would be, stem cells can — and do — play a much more immediate and universal part in health and wellness.

Recent research has shown that there are many profound health benefits you can enjoy from the natural function of adult stem cells in your body. In fact, a number of recent scientific studies have clearly established that higher levels of circulating adult stem cells are linked to better health. As these adult stem cells are released from your bone marrow into your bloodstream, they circulate throughout your body, replacing dysfunctional cells with healthy cells.

Your body's own intelligence guides the whole process. You can enjoy the many benefits without medical intervention.

Stem cell enhancers: the cutting edge of natural health and wellness. But, there is a problem here, of sorts. As a person ages, the numberand quality of circulating stem cells in his or her body gradually decreases, leaving that person susceptible to injury and other age-related health problems.

Healthy Digestive System.

It is practically impossible to distinguish which system or organ in our body is more important. They all play their specific roles in keeping us alive. However we are not satisfied with just being alive. More and more people these days realize how important it is to stay young and healthy as long as possible.

Digestive system unites esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas and gall bladder. Each of these organs play their specific role during digestion and only their balanced work provides normal processing of food. A problem in one organ of digestive system usually leads to infringement of normal functioning in other organs. So, low acidity of gastric juice can cause diarrhea, and belching can be a first sign of future liver problem. All this, once again, confirms a close relationship of all organs in our body.

It is a fact that most diseases, including some very serious ones, start from lower part of digestive system-the intestinal tract.

Such symptoms as heartburn, constipation and fatigue are usually attributed to a hectic lifestyle. In that case making changes in one’s lifestyle-quitting bad habits, eating right and being more physically active, can help the symptoms go away by themselves.

However, more often than not they are an indication, or a warning sign, of some kind of problem in our digestive system. Even allergies and certain skin conditions can be a part of this. Unfortunately, every other person suffers from some or other digestive disorder. On this page you will find natural remedies to treat the most common of them.

Before the treatment of any digestive system's disorder starts, it is necessary to find out the exact diagnosis. And only your doctor can help you with that. When it is done, a suitable natural remedy can be chosen.

Diarrhea:

Diarrhea, when lasts for a significant period of time, can become a serious problem because of the danger of dehydration and loss of nutrients. It is especially true for children and elderly. If no remedy helps contact your doctor.

Put 1 tsp of dry black tea on a palm of the hand and rub it with the thumb. When tea becomes more like powder swallow it with small amount of water.

Take 10 peppercorns (ungrounded black pepper) and swallow with small amount of water.

Water, which rice was previously cooked in, gives good results.

Drink mix of 2-3 raw eggs and 350 g of cold boiled water during the day. Do not drink any other water.

In 1 L of cold boiled water dissolve 1 tsp of baking soda and 1 tsp of table salt. Drink all at once.

Dissolve 1 tbsp of potato starch in 1/2 cup of cold water and drink all at once. Treatment can be repeated few times.

Constipation:

is one of the most common digestive system's disorders of modern world. It brings many inconveniences in person's life. Most of us give up hope of a normal digestion, although the answer to the problem is much closer then one might think and easily accessible.

Mix 1-2 tbsp of dried dog rose with 6-10 drops of lemon juice in a cup of boiling water. Let the mix cool down and drink. In 1 cup of boiling water mix 1 tbsp of honey and 10 drops of grapefruit (or 6-7 drops of lemon) juice. Drink in the morning.

Every morning 30 min before breakfast slowly drink one cup of very hot water. Use a spoon so as not to burn yourself. This simple remedy cleans the whole digestive system and, taken for at least 6 months, is known to cure chronic constipation. Better results can be achieved by adding juice of 1 lemon to the water. This mix is very good for the liver.

Mix together 60 ml of lemon juice and 15 g of table salt and add to 1 ½ L of warm water. Drink all at once and lie down on your back for 4-5 min.

Every morning before breakfast and every evening before bed eat 1-2 oranges. (Only if no ulcers are present.)

Put 1 tsp of flax seeds in 1 cup of boiling water. Steep for 4-5 hours and drink everything including seeds in the evening before bed.

Drink 1-2 tsp of aloe juice 2-3 times a day 30 min before meal for 1-2 months. Add 2 tsp of dandelion root to 1 cup of cold boiled water and let stand for 8 hours. Drink ¼ cup 4 times a day before meal.

Put 10 g of crushed plantain seeds in 1/2 cup of boiling water, steep, filter and drink all at once.

Mix together 4 parts of buckthorn bark, 1 part of crushed cumin seeds and 2 parts of chamomile flowers. Add 1 tbsp of the mix to 200 g of boiling water and boil for 10 min at low heat and drink all at once at bedtime. This remedy cleans digestive system and provides good results at constipation, colitis, and hemorrhoids.

Worms:
In the morning an hour before breakfast eat fresh, well washed peel of orange, lemon, grapefruit or mandarin.

Take 2-3 grinded lemon seeds with warm water 3 times a day 30 min before meal. 30 min before breakfast eat 6 walnuts, 30 min before lunch-5 walnuts and 4 walnuts before dinner. Repeat for 3 days.

Colitis:
Combine 1 tsp of each: centaury, chamomile and sage, and add 1 cup of boiling water. Drink 1 tbsp every 2 hours 7-8 times a day for 1-3 months, and then reduce the dose slightly. This remedy is safe to take for a long period of time.

Atony:

Add 10 g of origanum to 200 ml of cold boiled water and let stand for 8 hours. Take 1 tbsp 3 times a day.

In one and a half L of cold boiled water dissolve 11/2 tsp of salt and juice of 1 lemon. Drink the mix during 40 min in the morning before breakfast. Repeat the next day.
